First planted in the 1970’s by Dr. Ferrington, a dermatologist from Santa Rosa, the vineyard was purchased by Kurt and Heather Schoeneman in 1996. Originally from the East Bay, the Schoenemans had been visiting Anderson Valley for many years and with each visit the dream of becoming farmers grew. When they found Ferrington Vineyard, they took the plunge. In their first year, Kurt and Heather replanted nearly the entire vineyard with the goal of further diversifying the property’s clonal selections.
Kurt says “It’s more than a vineyard, it is a community – we have built housing for our workers, planted gardens, raised chickens and cattle, and all share in the bounty of this land.”
The gentle, south-facing slopes of this 70 acre vineyard supply FEL with a single-source Pinot Noir. This wine is a blend of three clones and is always the most forward and precocious of FEL’s vineyard designate Pinot Noirs.
